‘KELIM’ CHOREOGRAPHY CENTER

The Kelim Choreography Center is an international center and a place for thought, experimentation, initiation and choreographic practice. Kelim is driven by the desire to develop the connections between artists, creations, audiences and communities with the notion that choreography is a practice that spans many fields and disciplines beyond dance.

The Kelim Choreography Center in one of the six Dance Centers acknowledged by the Israeli Ministry of Culture and is a unique institute in the Israeli dance field unique for its blend of professional dance and working with varied non-dancer communities, with emphasis on the local (Bat-Yam/urban) community; being a nursery for new creative powers in the contemporary dance field nurturing choreographic praxis. Kelim is junction that connects between different dance artists; between choreographic practice and contemporary academic dance theory; and between choreography, pedagogy, education and community.

Kelim believes that choreography as a praxis is a powerful tool for growth, embodiment and expression of different bodies with different abilities in all fields – artistic, educational (schools) and communal; We believe in actively engaging with its surroundings and sees artists as educators and as a leading force in designing and shaping of their communities. The center creates different frameworks in which choreographers work with local communities in a mindset of mutual empowerment: pupils, seniors, residents of Bat Yam, people with disabilities, and more.

The Kelim Choreography Center facilitates varied activities – the two-year choreography program, residencies, dance performances and festivals, workshops for choreographers, international cooperation, educational and community projects, dance research and theory, and more.
