“Dance can express sensations and emotions in a manner that cannot be done in words or in musical notation. Writing is a tool which enables you to characterize thought patterns and habits, and when you recognize your own patterns and habits, you can choose a new direction and create patterns with new meaning. I don’t deliberately work with a certain ‘style’. My style derives from who I am, my personality and qualities. But I cannot define it.” (Noa Eshkol)

Noa Eshkol and Prof. Avraham Wachman developed the Eshkol-Wachman Movement Notation, a revolutionary notation system, as a tool for creative dance work. The Eshkol-Wachman notation system is taught at the Tel Aviv University, the Academia of Dance and Music in Jerusalem, the Kibbutzim College and at various dance elective programs in high schools throughout Israel. The Noa Eshkol Foundation supports broader dissemination and use of the Eshkol-Wachman notation system, as well as further research in this field.

The Chamber Dance Group continues to teach and perform Noa Eshkol’s pieces.

The “Toolbox” is a joint creative process whose goal is to formulate a unique working method/model tailored to the specific needs and abilities of the group’s members, through which participants can ultimately create a dance piece for the stage.

As dancers, we communicate with our bodies through movement. We believe that the immediacy of the body can enable any person to communicate with others, regardless of social constructs that may separate them, and to articulate, if only for a moment, their feelings and dreams through performance.

The ‘Toolbox” project, beyond being a meeting place between art and the ‘other’, is an opportunity for learning and growth.

Ana Vagana is a fabric embodied by creation, femininity, motherhood, and blood. Her body speaks through texts by Hélène Cixous and Luce Irigaray, paints with the inspiration of Judy Chicago, and recites Dominique Cristina’s “Period Poem”. Ana Vagana exchanges symmetries in the body moving on the horizontal. She moves close to the ground and offers possibilities to be born, to renew, to be ancient, biblical, to be nature, to be a landscape. To give life. To give birth. To bleed. To call all that is repressed and waiting to return with all its glory into a matriarchal world of flesh, bones, and blood cells. Remembering the body being inside a body, being two, having multiple lives, being inseparable, and being separable, and giving more life, and more.

LIGHT FROM BENEATH THE DECKS OF DISASTER

Maya M. Carroll, Roy Carroll and i have worked together in different configurations in

both the dance and the music fields numerous times over the past 8 years.

This has exposed and enriched a fire of empathy both in the making and the performing of our work.

My  own performances have the deepest of connections to live

music and the musicians who produce it.

They come from and continue a long tradition of movement and voice,

dance and words cohabiting with full naturalness on stage.

In this piece these three elements music, dance and word will be the main elements we shall be using.

I will direct the piece to give and draw upon the rich experience and colour of each of our creative abilities.

Art might often inspire from above….this piece works from beneath  :  the seeds of inspiration which arise from below. The lack of ambition within the material to provide answers.

The place from which collective decisions are forged and come to light.

Keep It Real is shameless and straightforwardly queer. A post-feminist influenza, highly contagious that can cause enjoyment. The protagonist cyborg-bitches tease the thin border between fiction and reality, and their bitch magic goes overboard contaminating everything around them.

Zombies and cyborgs seem utterly human in Keep It Real and these queer bodies possess dangerous political abilities, but what is their power inside the theatre machinery?

Glittery skin becomes a screen, and changes the see-through texture of the pretend-real-authenticity of the discourse. The effect is queering the queer and an anti-show show.

The Choreographersc partners in life and creation, will assemble a retrospective on their three duets: “Pre-Martha” (2008), “Two Room Apartment” (2012) that is based on Liat Dror & Nir Ben Gal’s original work, and the new duet that is in process, towards a premiere in the 2018 edition of the Israel Festival. In the event, Sheinfeld & Laor will present excerpts from the three works.
